IMAGES AND FONTS
We often get asked if we can use an image that a client has found on the web or they want to use a particular font but don't own it. Both images and fonts have license agreements, you should always read the license agreement to make sure that you are able to the font or image for commercial use, as some may have a license agreement for only private use.
Can you save an image from Google images or a another site?
NO, this is illegal unless you have contacted the owner of the image and asked for their permission.
If you are wanting to use images from the web, then you should visit a stock royalty free website that sells both photos and vector images. Once again you should read their license agreement, they have different levels for purchasing that determine how the images can be used.
You cannot download vector images that have been created on a computer or drawn, simply tracing the image or changing colours does not make you the owner of the artwork, you still to contact the owner or pay a stock image site for the use of the image.
Can I freely copy and distribute the typefaces among employees or outside resources?
NO, fonts are considered software. When you purchase a typeface, you are really purchasing a license to install. Most font licenses are for installing on up to 5 computers, but others may only allow you to install on only 2 computers. It is important to read the end User License Agreement (EULA) before purchasing. Most font software EULA's do not allow you to make copies of or distribute font software to another organization or individual who does not also have a license to use it. This, for example, includes service bureaus, design agencies, PR companies, advertising agencies, and printers. In summary, anyone using font software must have a license.
